Use Twitter for work? Tip time!

Jessica Barnes, communications associate

Twitter is a large, busy world. Google just told me that as of the third quarter of 2018, there are 326 million monthly users, on average.
Here are some tips to make Twitter easier to navigate and to better get your message heard:

  • Use #'s — terms that users rely on to search the Twitter-verse. Some examples include #UMNExt, #UMNProud, and #SNAPEdWorks.
  • Tag the Twitter account of partners you are working with. This will make sure that your tweet shows up in the the account holder feed as well as their followers.
  • Never start a tweet with a tag unless you add a '.' in front of it. For example — .@UMNExt.
  • Please add the following statement to your profile: Opinions are mine and do not represent my employer.
  • Don't use a University logo in your personal account.
  • Check out the University's house rules.
