Workshop to Address Educational Disparities

This April, South Central Service Cooperative will host “Implementing Effective Partnerships,” the final workshop in a three-part series on family and community engagement. University of Minnesota Extension and the Minnesota Department of Education are offering this training, their first partnership of this kind addressing Minnesota’s educational disparities.

Participants will learn from facilitators and each other about successful family engagement activities. There will also be a focus on building relationships to engage staff, families, and their communities through such as activities as home visits, family forums, Latino Parent Teachers Organizations, and addressing staff development needs. Facilitators include our own Kathleen Olson, Extension Coordinator — Partnering for School Success, and Silvia Alvarez Davila, Extension Educator — Family Resiliency, as well as Debra Landvik, Educational Specialist, Parent Involvement, Minnesota Department of Education.

Please encourage the school administrators, district leaders, and other educational partners you work with to attend this event.

When: April 12, Tuesday, 8:30 am to 3 pm
Where: South Central Service Cooperative, 2075 Lookout Drive, North Mankato, MN

If you are not based near Mankato, let Kathleen Olson know if your partners would be interested in a similar workshop held in their Minnesota region. This series of workshops has had good attendance and feedback, and the planning team is considering taking it to other parts of the state.
