This week, University of Minnesota Extension unveiled a new website that will help make the healthy choice the easy choice for food shelf operators and clients.

The website, Building Better Food Shelves, features training, print materials, and videos that are free of charge to food shelf directors, volunteers, and others working to improve healthy food access. Four sections comprise the site:
- Nudging to Health: Promoting Healthy Choices at Your Food Shelf — Training and techniques to "nudge" food shelf clients toward making healthier choices when selecting food.
- Promoting Healthy Eating at Food Shelves — A comprehensive guide to offering healthier options at food shelves.
- Cooking Healthy on a Budget Videos — Videos demonstrating how to prepare common vegetables. Available in three languages!
- Backpack Nutrition Newsletters — Monthly newsletters to strengthen a school backpack program.
“We’re very excited to offer these resources to our communities,” said Kelly Kunkel, Extension educator in health and nutrition. “One of the main ways we support communities who are working toward healthy food access is by providing technical assistance, and this website gives us another way to do that work.”
